Prof Sorensen is Professor and Head of Department for the Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London (UCL). She holds an MSc and PhD in chemical engineering from NTNU in Trondheim and an MA in higher education from UCL, and she is a chartered engineer (CEng) and a chartered scientist (CSci). She holds several prestigious engineering fellowships, of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and of the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering. Within education, she also holds fellowships of the UK’s Higher Education Academy and of the European Society for Engineering Education. Prof Sorensen is an Editor of the EFCE’s journal Chemical Engineering Research and Design and was previously the Editor-in-Chief. She is a member of the IChemE's Education & Accreditation Sub-Committee and a past member of the UK Engineering Council's Engineering Accreditation Board. She is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Norwegian Research Council, as well as a panel member for ERC Starter Grants and for a number of national funding bodies. Eva was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in King Charles III's Birthday Honours in 2023 for services to chemical engineering and education. In terms of research interests, she is equally interested in optimisation and control of complex separation processes and in engineering education.
